Hey everyone! How long as it been since I last wrote a journal?
In fact, why is it that now you can add journals to your favorites?
Apparently if I don't go to a convention, there's nothing worth reporting about, lol. But, I promise I'm not dead! In fact, I am hear to dump all the goodness that's been going on in my life on you!
So I think the last thing I ever reported on was Glass City Con and ranted about how I was denied the privilege to go to Youmacon. So Youmacon passed by me last weekend and I thought I'd be really sad and all, but to be honest some amazing things have happened these past 2 weeks that made me forget all about it! So lets rewind back to August where it all started...
First off, way back in August I participated in a contest prior to the launch of a little group called Team Haberkorn. For those who don't know, Team Haberkorn is the official fan club of Todd Haberkorn (actor/ voice actor). It's run by Todd himself as well as a few other amazingly nice people. Anywho, the challenge was to draw Yamato from Suzuka for a design that would be used in the year 1 button for all joining members. Well... I won! I should probably post my picture to prove it or something... Lol. Everyone who joins Team Haberkorn gets the button with their swag which also includes a T-Shirt, lanyard, membership card, and autograph card. (And if you join in the month of November you also get a bag!) I didn't get to join right away due to the fact that I only get paid every once in a blue moon so I had to wait to actually become a member, but at long last all those people who owed me money came through all at once! So I got my membership and my stuff arrived. Mama Korn, Suzette (TH President) sent me some extra buttons since I designed them.
Put a smile on my face. And then a few weeks later, Suzette actually contacted me to ask if I wanted to become a permanent part of the team as an artist. So after flipping out a little with excitement, I accepted! So now I have the privilege of designing the membership buttons for every year as well as some other cool things. In fact I'm already hard at work on something. Kind of interesting to say i work with Todd Haberkorn.
Second awesome thing! A week ago I applied for Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington. I had to stay home so that exactly at 10pm EST on the dot, i could type faster than I've ever typed to submit an application for artist alley. Sometime just after midnight this morning I got the email saying I got in! I'm pretty sure I submitted my application within 20 seconds and i'm all the way down at 94th on a list of 100 artists. I barely made it! But i'm soooooooooo happy that I did! In April I get to go to Seattle for the first time ever, not to mention one of the most infamous Anime Conventions in the country. Let that be a lesson to anyone who's thinking about trying to get into these big conventions. Sometimes you've only got a 30 second time frame, so don't waste it!
Also, special shout out for my buddy Nasdreks
She recently landed a deal with a publishing company for her original Manga 'The Sorcerers Apprentice'. I bought the first Vol. when she was self publishing and it's nothing short of amazing! She never ceases to blow me away with all the hard work she does to make her dreams a reality. So go check it out and support her! bwillettcomics.com/sorcerersap…
Ok, now for all the lesser exciting things. Sometime in September maybe? I got a Mac. So i now have a super huge computer screen and awesome operating speeds. I should give livestream a try. I'll bet my ultra fast Mac can actually handle it! I'm also getting an iPhone, FINALLY. My blackberry is like 3 years old and it's just too slow. Plus, with this new phone i will be able to accept credit card transactions at conventions, so good news to all those of you who can't get cash from the empty ATMs! Ohayocon is less than 3 months away and I've still got 2 cosplays to make. Not to mention a but load of merch to create and a shoe commission to finish. Oh and I illustrate children's books now too. I've already started giving up sleep, lol. So if you don't see much from me it's because I'm too busy working on stuff that I'm making for other people. But's it's all good. It's my JOB as an artist.
Artist Alley Appearances: (2012)
Ohayocon in Columbus, OH (Jan. 27-29)
Animarathon in Bowling Green, OH (March 24)
Sakura-Con in Seattle, WA (April 6-8)
